Take Comfort
Mike Bell
Isaiah 40:1–11 opens with God’s command to “comfort” His people, pointing forward to the hope and restoration that would come through Christ. In a world marked by disappointment, suffering, sin, sickness, and constant change, this sermon reminds believers that God has given His people lasting sources of comfort. Through Christ, our sins are completely forgiven; through the Holy Spirit, God continues His work of regeneration and sanctification in our lives; and through His Word, we have an unchanging foundation that will stand forever.
The passage also points to the tender care of Christ, the Good Shepherd, who gathers, carries, and leads His people through the ministry of His Church. Rather than seeking comfort in the temporary things of this world, Christians are called to anchor their hearts in the eternal realities God has provided. No matter what trials we face, we can take comfort in knowing that we belong to Christ, His Word will never fail, His Spirit is at work within us, and our Shepherd will faithfully care for His people.
