Trust in the Lord

Mike Bell

This sermon on Proverbs 3:1–12 centers on what it means to truly trust in the Lord. Beginning with the father-son relationship described by Solomon, the message emphasizes that God's primary design for passing on the faith is through faithful parents who model obedience to Christ before teaching it to their children. Drawing from Deuteronomy 6, Exodus 20, Genesis 18, Psalm 78, and Ephesians 6, we see that discipleship begins in the home. Parents are called to have God's Word written on their own hearts so they can faithfully lead the next generation, while children are called to honor and obey their parents as they learn to follow the Lord.

The second half of the sermon focuses on Proverbs 3:5–7, highlighting the familiar command to "trust in the Lord with all your heart." Pastor Mike explains that genuine trust in God naturally leads believers away from self-reliance and toward wholehearted obedience. Trusting God means acknowledging Him in every area of life, rejecting pride, fearing the Lord, and turning from evil. The sermon concludes by encouraging every believer…parents, children, husbands, wives, and singles alike…to cultivate a heart that depends on Christ above all else, recognizing that a life of faithful obedience becomes a powerful testimony that points others to the goodness and wisdom of God.
